Calmenianism

I love making fun of labels and stereotypes (even though I use them all the time). Right now we're studying Calvinism in Romans class, and I'm learning a lot. At this stage in my life though - I love telling people that I'm a "CALMENIANIST." In this crazy, mixed-up brain of mine, I'm stupid enough to think that Calvinism and Armenianism can somehow coexist. A good friend/mentor of mine named Bill summed it up perfectly back in high school...

"God is sovereign. Man is responsible."

That's reality people - take it or leave it.

God doesn't care whether you're a 5 pointer, 4.5 pointer, or a 2,337 pointer...

God cares whether you study His Word to form a theology for your HEART AND HANDS, not just your HEAD.

I agree. Both truths are clearly taught in scripture. God is sovereign. Man is responsible. Our problem is that we often fail to ask why God made both of these truths so plainly taught. Clearly, His purpose in revealing that He is sovereign was not to allow us to excuse our sinfulness. Likewise, His purpose in revealing our responsibility was not to allow us to undermine the truth of His sovereignty.

It is only when we lose sight of God's purposes for revealing His truths to us, that we end up in a cybernetic mess trying to fit things together that appear to contradict themselves.

Good to hear this from you, Dan. The wrangling over this debate is something that never ceases to amaze me in light of the fact that believing one or the other doesn't change the truth of how we should live before a holy God.

i don't think god even cares about theology/the silly minor details that we get into such heated arguments over...that people leave churches over...etc...

i think he cares more about intention, about effort, about heart desire--but that's just me. ;)
