Psalm 8

Reading through John Eldridge's book Waking the Dead has been an amazing experience. I read Psalm 8 today - it basically sums up the thesis of the book.

Psalm 8:5-6 - "You made him [mankind] a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor. You made him ruler over the works of your hands; you put everything under his feet."

That glory and honor only comes through the icon of God stamped on us at the time of Creation.

We need to LIVE that way!!!

Daniel,

This is indeed a beautiful verse by which we need to live. I found your site while doing a search on blogs addressing this very verse. I was impressed by the conciseness and sincerity of your posting.

You may find it interesting to note that the verse in question, even in the version you cited, is much more powerful in the Hebrew original. Some middle-age and modern translations have conveyed the Hebrew correctly and unabashedly, for it does not read "heavenly beings" nor "angels," but "God." That is, "thou madest him a little lower than God..."

Sincerely,

James
